Privacy Policy

How we handle the information shared with this community project.

Effective 12 October 2026

What you share

When you add a salary, we collect the details you enter about the role and pay. These can include the job title, sector, city or district, salary amount and format, pay basis, job level, employment type, experience, highest completed qualification, benefits, who suggested the pay, and whether it is your salary, someone else’s, or public information. We do not ask for your name or email address.

We review new reports before they appear to other visitors. Until then, you will see your own report marked “Under review.” Even without a name, a very specific combination of details could identify someone. Please leave out anything that could identify a person.

Employer names

If you choose to enter an employer name, we keep it in our private records. We do not display it in the public index unless that employer wants to be shown. The public index displays a broad sector instead.

Company reviews

Company reviews are a separate, voluntary feature. When you submit one, we collect the company name, broad timing of your experience, multiple-choice ratings about pay and working conditions, a recommendation answer, and selected strengths and challenges. We do not ask for a written comment, your name or your job title, and we do not link a company review to a salary report. After moderation, the company name and approved review count can appear in the public company directory. Aggregated ratings appear after five approved reviews, or earlier if an admin publishes them. Individual answers are never shown publicly. Timing and common strengths or challenges are shown only after five approved reviews.

We use a random browser cookie to limit repeat reviews of the same company. The database stores only a keyed hash of that token with each review. The cookie lasts up to one year. Clearing cookies may let someone submit again, so this is not identity or employment verification.

Advertising

When you book an ad, we collect your email address, optional business name, banner image, destination link, payment reference and booking details. We use these to process the booking, show the banner and help with payment or takedown questions. PayChangu processes your payment. Your public banner and link are visible while the ad runs; your email address is shown only in masked form on the booking status page and in full to site administrators.

We count banner views when at least half the banner is visible, and clicks when a visitor follows it. These counts appear on the booking status page. A booking reference grants access to its status and counts, so keep that link private. Unpaid bookings and their images are deleted after three days.

Access and technical data

We use an access cookie so a contributor can return to the full index without creating an account. The cookie contains a random token; our database stores only a hash of that token. The cookie and its matching database session expire after one year, but contributors can restore access at any time through the “I already submitted” honesty confirmation. There is no deadline for returning.

To limit automated submissions, we temporarily keep a keyed hash of your IP address in our database. The hash is separate from your salary report. Expired hashes are removed as new submissions arrive. Our hosting provider may process ordinary request information, such as IP address and browser details, to deliver and protect the site. Google Fonts may also receive a request when your browser loads the site’s font.

We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics. It does not use cookies or store your IP address; it tells us how many people visit and which pages they view, and it is not linked to salary reports.

How we use and keep reports

We use salary reports to make pay information easier to compare and to operate the contribution-based access system. We do not sell submitted salary data. We have no fixed deletion date for reports; a report may remain in the index until it is corrected or removed.

The index also includes figures gathered from public discussions. We label these “Public report,” use broad sectors and do not display the original discussion links in the salary table.

Questions, corrections or removal

When you add a salary, you receive a removal code. Enter it on the Remove a salary page to delete your report straight away; it is cleared from our backups within 14 days. We keep only a scrambled (hashed) copy of the code, so we cannot recover a lost code.

You can also ask us to correct or remove a report or ask about information we hold. Because we do not collect an account or email with submissions, please include enough detail for us to find the report. Email chimwevinkhumbo@gmail.com. You can also reach us through Facebook or LinkedIn.
